WIRE FOR RIBBING

By Dennis Trudeau

At the Golden Gate Casting Club's lodge in San Francisco, I was impressed with the bright silver ribbing Frank Matarelli had achieved on some mounted Stoneflies. Upon closer scrutiny I could see he accomplished this using several strands of extra-fine, brightly polished silver wire twisted together. Duplicating his twisted wire ribbing was remarkably easy. Simply attach three or more individual strands of wire tightly at the appropriate tie in point. Pull the loose strands straight out from the hook. Make a small twist eye at the loose end of the strands. Insert a twisting hook into the small eye, extend the strands straight out and proceed to twist counter clockwise with the hook. A nice compact and uniform rope of bright silver results.
