In This Issue
As you will quickly notice, this issue is rather "thin" as compared to the previous issues. This is an extremely small issue. In fact, after reviewing the content of previous Salmon Flyers, this is probably the smallest ever published. Why? It is not , because the membership is the smallest. Membership has been growing and is well over 100 folks, with many new folks now subscribing. Why But, unfortunately the reason for the thin issue is simple, no contributions. Yes, that is right, no contributions, not a single one.
For the folks that have been subscribers for along time, you have read this plea before. And you do not need read this again. But, for the new folks, this will be the first time. This little magazine is totally dependent on the contributions of its subscribers. It's very simple, no contributions, no Salmon Flyer. To borrow from Michael Radencich's previous plea, "it should come as no surprise to anyone that if more articles are not forthcoming from the readers, the Salmon Flyer will fade into the mists of time and we will have to refund you the balance of your subscription fees".
Now I know no one would want the Salmon Flyer to fade into history. But, I really need a few articles for the next issue. I thought my subtle plea for an article or two in the last issue would not go unnoticed, however, it appears that it did. So just to make sure that this plea gets noticed. I need articles for the October issue or there will not be an October issue. Period.
We all would like to keep this magazine alive, that is why we have well over 100 subscribers. But, please send me some articles for the October issue. You don't need to be a Rod Haig-Brown, Joe Bates, or Rube Cross. Just pen a few words on paper about Atlantic Salmon flies and send it to me.
I and or Marvin will help out by copyediting your manuscript. If you need topical ideas, perhaps, an article on Dee or Spey style flies, or full-feather wings or how to obtain smooth floss and tinsel bodies will help pique someone's interest. So hopefully, there is a subscriber or two that can share their skills with us. These are just examples, if you have an article you were planning on sending in that is different than these I just mentioned, please send it. They were just topic areas to stimulate conservation.
Also, please send me any flies you have tied that you would like to see on the cover of the Salmon Flyer. There are many skilled fly dressers among the subscribers, and it would be nice to receive some flies from these folks to have photographed for the cover.
So, please send me your articles and flies, so the Salmon Flyer does not disappear into the fleeting memories of time. Only, with your help can the Flyer continue.
