Changes to the Salmon Flyer

Gary Grant

Well, this is my first issue as your new editor. I hope you find the quality of this issue similar to that of what you have expected from Michael Radencich in previous issues. There are however, a few changes that you will notice in this issue. As for example, in this issue, there are two color photographs. Basically, the front cover photograph is one from the studio of the exceptionally talented Michael Radencich. The second color photograph that appears on the back cover is from John Alevras who also contributed the Low Water Series article.

In the future I would like to have two color photographs on the front and back covers. The front cover will continue to be a photograph from Michael Radencich (for as long as Michael can contribute). The back cover I will leave for contributions from the membership. So please send me your photographs of either, a fly you have dressed, or one that complements an article you are submitting. The additional photographs that will appear on the back cover will provide an opportunity for the membership to show off their latent talents with the camera.

Another small change you will notice is the inclusion of either a tip or technique following an article. These tips and techniques will help me with page formatting, so they may not always appear after each article. I would however, appreciate any tip or technique you may have. I know many of us, are perhaps, a "bit pressed" for time to submit a complete article. However, if you have a tip or technique that you would like to share with the membership please feel free to write it down and send it to me. These little items could also enhance the quality of the "Salmon Flyer" and give everyone an opportunity to contribute even in a small way.

Hopefully, these small changes will provide the membership with expanded opportunities to contribute to this publication, while continuing to provide a valuable source for instruction and information on the classic salmon fly. If you have any comments or suggestions about these changes or other possibilities please fell free to let me know.

The Membership Roster

Marvin Nolte

Questions about the Membership Roster which accompanied the last issue have prompted me to provide an explanation of that roster.

When Mike and I decided to resurrect the Salmon Flyer, Mike sent each person on the extant membership list an issue. Enclosed with that issue was a preprinted slip of paper which, when filled out and returned to me with their subscription fee, authorized Mike to include their name in a Membership Roster.

If you subscribed after that initial issue was mailed you did not receive the slip. Only those returning the slips were listed in the roster. Thus, many of you were not listed.

Gary and I have discussed the matter and have agreed that future rosters will be complied in a different manner: all subscribers to the "Salmon Flyer"will be included in a roster unless they notify the editor that they do not wish to be included.

A roster will be complied for the upcoming Summer issue. So if you do not want to be included in the roster please notify Gary by June 16th, 1998.
