TYING TRADITIONAL SALMON FLIES AND THE INTERNET
Jacques Heroux
As a newcomer in tying Traditional (Classic and full dressed) Atlantic salmon flies, access to information is essential to improve my techniques and learn all the tricks of the trade that make the art of tying flies more fulfilling.
There are of course, all kinds of very good books and magazines written on the subject of fly fishing and fly tying.
Personally, most of my basic knowledge on dressing traditional salmon flies comes from two great Atlantic salmon fly tiers from New Brunswick, Bryant Freeman and Bob Michaud.
The arrival of new technology, especially the Internet has been a great source of information on fly fishing and fly tying. I've met lots of new fellow fly tyers through chat discussion groups, News Group, ICQ and e-mail. I've read hundreds of very helpful articles and personal tips and techniques on fly tying. Also, some web sites publish Atlantic salmon fly pictures and their recipes. Finally, now through the web, I can shop and buy my fly tying material.
In a previous edition of the "Salmon Flyer" Gary asked for some articles so I thought since I am a daily user of the intemet and learn a great deal from it, why not share the best of my bookmarks with my fellow salmon fly tyers.
I have listed some of my best web sites related to Atlantic salmon fly tying and divided it into 4 categories: fly tying shop catalogue, fly fishing and fly tying resources, personal web sites, and Atlantic salmon associations. I am sure there are many more good web sites on-line that I am not aware of. But, this list can help you begin your search on the intemet and learn new fly tying tips on dressing traditional Atlantic salmon flies and also, make new friends
Good luck and have a great trip on cybersp@ce.
