FROM THE EDITOR
To All Members of the "Group"
Glad to have you with us under our newsletter's new name. We will keep the same type of information and style as before, just a new look for the 90's. To those that have forgotten what this is all about, let me give a brief review. This newsletter is a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on feather-wing Atlantic Salmon flies. Participation is open to all who want to share their knowledge, or who have questions on this topic. All that is asked is a contribution of $5.00 to cover publication and mailing costs, and the submission of an article (or question) annually, with the $5.00. However, some of us have forgotten that sending in only the $5.00 isn't enough. You must contribute both the article (or question) and $5.00 to continue on the mailing list. If you have contributed both your money and your writing, you will continue to receive the SALMON FLYER in January, April, July and October. Currently $5.00 covers publication costs for one year. This cost may increase (requiring additional funds from each member), or it may cover more than one year's costs. Whatever the fee is, it will be no more than the actual cost for copying and mailing each issue. It will be requested as a base fee of $5.00/year with additional funds requested as needed.
Articles may cover a wide range of topics related to the general subject of feather-wing Salmon Flies. The list of topics may include, and is not limited to the following:
Framing, photography of flies, sources of materials, history, suggested reading and book sources, substitute materials, teaching classes, handling and storage of materials, material dyeing, tying techniques, material preparation, questions and answers, antique patterns and hooks, places to see collections and exhibitions, specialty shops, buying or trading of materials between Group members, personal biographies, book video reports, what is legal to use, topic debate column, where to fish for Atlantic Salmon, mystery fly patterns, what to look for in good material...
Questions should be detailed in nature, and specific. Line drawings may be used, but please ... no photographs. Submissions may be typed, or handwritten. Correct grammar and spelling is not important, but they must be legible. Unreadable material, subject matter not pertaining to Atlantic Salmon patterns, or overly general questions will not be accepted. All submitted material will be returned to the author only if return postage is included with the submission.
Articles pertaining to commercial advertising will not be accepted, though reference to a source of supply will be allowed. Length of submission is not important, but generally should not exceed four type written pages.
I look forward to hearing from each of ,you. And if you have any further questions, or comments please let me know. That's all there is too it. Please send all submissions and publication payments to the editor.
